34 week bumpdate

34 weeks is one of those weeks that sounds substantial. I'm not sure why...maybe because I can't travel now? Or maybe it's because 6 weeks until full term sounds so much shorter than 7 or 8? Anyway, baby and I are both getting big and feeling the full effects of pregnancy. We are starting to wrap things up around the house and really think about 6 weeks (or less? or maybe 8 weeks max?) from now and how much our lives will change. 6 weeks!!!

How far along:  thirty-four weeks!

Size of babe: a butternut squash! A chunky/smooshy butternut squash, I hope! ;)

Gender: Mr. Man! His full initials were revealed here!

Husband: He's on my bad side this week. He told me on Monday that I looked like a watermelon. How's that for supportive? He *claims* it's because I was wearing a green shirt and pink shorts, but I think he was just being mean. rude.

Maternity Clothes: I've pretty much exclusively made the move over. It's so frustrating going through summer without being able to buy cute regular clothes! Never mind the heat, I want cute clothes! I got in the dresses I ordered from Old Navy and they are SO comfy, I've been living in them this week.

black fit and flare                                      striped swing dress

Loving: Watermelon slushes, all the sugar and junk food in the world, my sleep, hot baths, and swimming!

Loathing: Heartburn, indigestion, acid reflux, all of the above. Chicken is still weird, I think it may never be the same (unless it's fried, of course).

Movement: Oh yeah. The moves have definitely changed and are more like shifting throughout the day but any time after 6pm is dance party time for this munchkin. He goes to TOWN at night before I go to bed and I usually have to try and ignore his moves in order to get to sleep. Crazy boy! He also loves to stick his hand (I'm assuming) wayyyy down low on my right side where my leg meets my pelvis. It is the WEIRDEST thing and I can't imagine my uterus goes that low, but he shoves his hand down there with such force that it takes my breath away and I immediately feel like I should straighten out so I don't hurt him. It's not painful but it's super uncomfortable for me, and maybe for him?

Symptoms: I've got the waddles, the acid reflux, the fatigue (I fell asleep from 5:30-8:15pm after work Monday night and then went to bed again at 11pm), the aches, the pains, all of the above. We're fully invested in this one!

Best Part of the Week: I spent a good 4 hours floating in my parent's pool on Saturday afternoon and while the sunburn I got wasn't the best part of my week, the perceived weightlessness and freedom to move how I wanted was pretty nice. I plan on taking advantage of that a few more times before this little man comes!

Worst Part of the Week: I had a crappy end to the week last week when my indigestion hit hard. I ended up taking a sick day, not because I thought I could recover in one day, but because I just couldn't function. I stayed in bed ALL day until I mustered the strength to go to Target around 8pm, where I picked up Prilosec. Life=changed. I've been taking 2 a day since then (rather than dealing with Zantac, Tums, AND Prevacid) and my indigestion is 99% gone. Hallelujah!!!

Missing Most: Right now, just the ability to shop and get all of the cute summer things. Summer is my favorite and I didn't consider the fact that being whale-sized would prevent me from indulging in some new clothes! There's always next year...

Can't wait for: I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this weekend brings a burst of energy so Mark and I can clean/organize/nest together. He doesn't know it's coming yet but it's way overdue! It's about time we got the house in order for this little one on the way...

since I'm a bad blogger | weekend recap

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm a bad blogger. I thought about getting my camera out a couple times this weekend but just couldn't muster the strength to do so. See this post for more details. To make up for my bad form, I'm keeping it short today with this quick weekend recap. Here goes!

Friday night I made the long drive to my sister's house in Burleson for her Gone With the Wind watch party. It is a LONG movie but it's a classic and her favorite. Plus, I hadn't seen it in a while so it was fun to watch it as more of a 'grown up'. I caught a lot more this time!

Since the movie was so long, it was so late, and I was so far from home, I opted to stay the night. In the morning we dropped in on my parents to do a little swimming and ended up spending the rest of the afternoon there! Mark was playing disc golf and was in the area so he and his friend stopped by for swimming and homemade peach ice cream. It was a fun day!

Sunday was mostly a lazy day until I started working on this:

How does a designer and architect's wife cut fabric? "To scale". Ha. get it? Wow.

I've never made a quilt before but I spent half of my day buying, cutting, and starting to piece together this little thing for baby B. I'm so excited to finish it!!! Oh, and what's that? Another hint at his name in monogram form! Place your bets, people!

So that was my uneventful yet perfectly perfect weekend. Happy Monday!

five on Friday | keeping it real

To be honest, I wasn't even going to post anything today. I took a sick day from work yesterday because that indigestion I mentioned? Yeah it's here to stay and it's hitting me with a vengeance. I'm taking medicine, trying to follow all the rules (like don't eat, drink, bend over, or lay down. ever.) but it's slowly killing me from the inside out.

Anyway, I didn't think I had any blogging material (and you may agree after reading this) but I realized I can share my week with you by 'keeping it real'. So here goes:

one.

I started off my day yesterday at 3am! So productive of me, right? Nope. Acid reflux. So I found this fitting and posted it on instagram at that ungodly hour:

two.

Despite not being able to eat (ever), I came across this heaven on earth and texted Mark with the caption TAKE ME HERE. He totally understood the urgency and I fully expect it to happen for our next date night when I can eat again (which will be never).

three.

Did I say I couldn't eat? I lied. I made these on Monday night and they are already gone. Whoops. #maybethatswhyIhaveheartburn #sorrynotsorry

four.

Thanks to my general lack of motivation and ability to lift myself out of bed yesterday, I've successfully made it to season 5 of Downton Abbey. Don't spoil it!

five.

Ok, so I did take some pictures yesterday to document my 'realness'. This was the extent:

she stayed here literally all day

I got 'dressed' at 7:30pm. This was about as dressed as I could force myself to get.

yes, yes it was.

my setup for the rest of the evening.

So there it is, y'all. Completely real, uncut, uncensored day in the life of a poor unfortunate soul. Happy Friday all!

take a breath

Phew!

dmariebuchanan@gmail.com Image Map
The last week or two have felt non-stop and a little hectic over here in blog-land. Am I the only one? I need to take a breather so today I'm just going to go hang out on my happiness board on Pinterest and take pleasure in the little things! I hope you find something there you like, too! Happy Thursday!

33 week bumpdate

33 weeks summary: I'm starting to lose count of the weeks and focusing more on days (less than 50!). I'm feeling even more pregnant with lots of aches and pains and difficulty breathing but baby is still safe and sound in there. It's crazy that it's starting to become time to watch for Braxton Hicks contractions and all that jazz. Still 7 weeks to go though! I had an appointment yesterday and baby is measuring right on time. I'm pretty sure I had a huge growth spurt around week 28 and I've stayed the same for the past 5 weeks because 4 weeks ago at my appointment I was measuring big, 2 weeks ago I was measuring just a week ahead, and this week I was measuring right on track. Good to know he's not huge (yet!). Just 4 weeks until full term!

How far along:  thirty-three weeks!!! I'm starting to lose count of the weeks!

Size of babe: a Durian. 500 bonus points to anyone that knows what that is OR has had one before!

Gender: Mr. Man!

Husband: I was telling him all about baby the other day and how he should be talking to him so he knows his voice. He then decided he should play him some music so he got out his phone and put it up to my tummy. It played for a bit and then Mark goes "do you think that's too loud?!" and turned it down. hahahaha It gave me a good laugh!

Maternity Clothes: Yes, but I still think I'm smaller than I really am. Every day or two I try to put on something non-maternity (but still loose or baggy) thinking it will fit over my bump only to be surprised when it's awkwardly tight across my midsection. My wardrobe is getting a lot smaller these days and I'm about ready to be able to wear my old clothes again!

I did buy these in a moment of weakness the other day and I'm mostly excited about how freaking comfortable they look. I can't wait to get them! Hopefully that's all the maternity shopping I'll need to do before baby comes! Hopefully...

Loving: Water, any sort of down time, sitting in the nursery, talking to Mark about our impending parenthood, and seeing the car seat base and other baby items installed in my car already. :)

Loathing: The sleep schedule is still a little off. Also still loathing indigestion, needing to eat even when I feel bad, bending over, having to go to the bathroom a lot, not being able to complete simple tasks and running out of energy quickly.

Movement: Moving around just as much as always! Kicks are getting more painful, as are jabs. I did some googling and I'm pretty sure baby boy has been in the head down, facing my back position for a while. I'm constantly feeling his butt on my tummy and sometimes he rotates to the left and gives me some hard kicks to the right side. From what I've read, this is a good labor position so I hope he stays there!

Symptoms: I believe I've had a couple Braxton Hicks contractions! Nothing constant but definitely a few moments where I felt 'off' and my stomach tightened up. I'm swelling off and on some days mostly in my lower legs right before my ankles. It's a little odd. My legs feel really tight when that happens. I'm still struggling with indigestion too, womp.

Best Part of the Week: Finishing the nursery and sharing it with y'all! Thanks for all the great feedback! We are loving it and I spend some time in there every day! :)

Worst Part of the Week: I'm struggling with the time here...I want to enjoy this pregnancy (it's been quite easy) but I also want to meet my baby. I'm also starting to get tired and uncomfortable (more so than usual) and it's hard not to wish away the weeks. I forgot what it feels like to not be pregnant. That's just been the cloud hanging over me for the last couple of weeks and I'm hoping I can push it away and really enjoy these last 7 weeks!

Missing Most: See above...just missing my old body and being able to get out of bed without grunting or fear that I'll pull something.

Can't wait for: this baby to get here! I've suddenly been hit with a big lack of patience. I tend to always be ready for things on time or a little early (like work, going on vacation, etc) and I think that is biting me in the butt with pregnancy. The nursery is ready, the diapers are stocked, the car seat is installed, we have the pediatrician set up, etc., etc. I just want to hold this baby!!!

a wonderful, whimsical, woodland nursery | baby boy's nursery reveal

I have just about a month and a half left before meeting this sweet boy, but the anticipation I've felt for finishing and revealing his nursery is a close second to actually meeting him! Aside from a few changes that I'm sure will take place to increase functionality, the nursery is finally finished and I'm so happy to share it with you! (You'll just have to wait the full 9 months to hear his name!)

From the beginning, I didn't really want to do a themed nursery. I didn't want a theme to take over and I didn't want to be confined by that theme. Instead, I pinned a lot of images and chose the details I liked best and then built off of that. It ended up morphing into somewhat of a 'theme', but again, I'm not bound by it. I've started calling it the 'whimsical woodland nursery' theme. Take a look!

The first few items that I knew I wanted to use in the nursery, boy or girl, was a red/orange  wing back chair from Ikea that we already had and the vintage sputnik light that was taken out of my grandparent's home when they moved earlier this year. The chair color (along with the woodland animal print that I pinned early on) drove most of the color scheme and the light drove my decision on the ceiling and details in the room. I'm happy I was set on those from the beginning because I love how it has turned out!

As with most things, I feel like the details make all the difference in a room. There are still years of personalization left to happen in this space, but it's the small artistic details that are my favorite. Various textures, colors, and unexpected finishes can be found throughout the room.

bottom, left to right: unexpected texture (lace) on the crib skirt by my mom | personal touches and 'textures from home' | two textured rugs and the pouf

I read that babies react to things that act in a way they don't expect so I hope baby and I have fun exploring his room together for a few years. I can't wait to see his reaction when he touches things like the textured rug or the pom pom trim on his crib!

Follow along as we walk in the door and around the room, starting to the left of the door:

my mom also made the wood-grain printed changing pad cover. love her!

I found this buffet on Facebook before we knew baby's gender and snatched it up. Mark changed out the pulls and it houses all sorts of baby items now. It also acts as the changing table and anchors this side of the room.

I found the striped bin in the office section at Target. I wasn't sure if I wanted to introduce black and white in the room when I was working with a lot of navy blue but I figured black and white was a neutral (right?) and baby would understand.

I got the idea for the banner from Pinterest and it was such an easy project. Look out for these or something similar on Etsy soon! Mark also made the shelves and I LOVE them! They house some of the essentials, a jar filled with pacifiers, and of course Owen Fox! :)

I found the wire bins at Target too and I love that they (with the marquee heart and Owen Fox) bring that red-orange tone to this side of the room. It's all about balance!

diaper organization

I picked up the hanging basket at Target as well, specifically as a diaper station. Pretty soon it will be full of diapers but I figured it could hold some cute stuff for the time being! I wasn't sure I needed the hooks on the bottom but I'm glad it has them because I'm already using them for all sorts of things!

ikea strandmon rocking chair hack and texan details

We followed this tutorial to turn our Strandmon chair into a rocker and I'm so glad we went for it. The prices of rockers and gliders were making me have hives and I love how comfortable this chair is now with a slight recline. Mark and I both foresee LOTS of naps in this chair!

Behind the chair is a bookshelf that the previous owners left behind. I was SO close to trashing it when we moved in because it was intended for a nursery and we didn't really have a need for it, but I'm so glad I hung onto it. We hung it higher on the wall (it's made to sit on the ground) and I can't wait to fill it with ALL sorts of books for this boy.

On the other side of the window is the crib and focal point of the room. It looks kind of empty but don't worry, we have a lovely stand-up fan that will sit in that corner. It's ESSENTIAL! Of course, I still love our moose and he is even more handsome with the addition of the crib bedding.

I am IN love the "Dream Big" pillow I found at T.J. Maxx. It adds the touch of whimsy I love! My mom worked hard on the crib skirt and bumper and I got the striped sheet as a gift. We made the bumper to be reversible so the mustard can be on the inside or flipped with just plan white. I like the option of changing out my sheets and flipping the bumper around to give it whatever look I want! Also, I think the pom-pom trim really sets it over the cuteness edge. Thanks again mom for working so hard on this. :)

So much hard work and sweat went into this room and I'm so happy it's ready for our baby boy. It fits Mark and me so perfectly and I only hope that our baby will love it as much as we do! Thank you for being patient with me as I finished it all up, now we just have to wait for the baby to fill it!

I've also posted the reveal here on Project Nursery. Thanks again!

Happy Tuesday!
