Food Diaries : Mellow Mushroom with Andrea and the crew

Whoops.

I promised to blog on Friday and I let you guys down! I'm sorry about that. The good news is that I'm back and have a lot lined up for the next couple of weeks, so please forget about my little mistake last week!

A couple of weeks ago, Mark and I went up to McKinney to see his sister Andrea and her kids. We had missed her birthday brunch the weekend before and wanted to make up for it.

We went to Mellow Mushroom on the square in McKinney. Mark and I had never been and were excited to try out the pizza and the open air atmosphere. I even grabbed my new Nikon on the way out so I snapped some 'real' pictures!

It was a really nice evening and we had a lot of people watching to do as we waited for our pizza. I think Mellow Mushroom does something special with their pizza because we were told that it's pretty normal for it to take a while for your order to come out. We didn't mind, though, because we got even more time to chat with Andrea and play with the kids.

The food was REALLY good, but the company was even better!

Mark and Griffin.

Andrea and Luke were there too, promise!

We had a really good time and I would totally recommend Mellow Mushroom. Just make sure you have time to wait! It's really delicious, and the location on McKinney's square is perfect!

Happy Monday!

Weekend Wrap-up and big changes!

First things first! You might notice a few changes around here, most notably my new blog title! I had no intention of changing my title any time soon but yesterday I was playing around in Blogger and it just came to me and 'wonderfully made' seemed like the perfect name for this blog. Here's where it comes from:

"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well."

Psalm 139:14 NKJV

This scripture is beautiful and I feel like it is the perfect representation of my blog as it is now and what  I want it to reflect moving forward. "Wonderfully made" is a constant reminder of my love of Christ and also can be applied to so many aspects of my blog.

I started this blog as a DIY and home decor blog and have shared parts of our home that are 'wonderfully made'. Along the way I've also morphed into a lifestyle blogger so there are some posts that have nothing to do with DIY but are about my life and my family, which are 'wonderfully made'.

Let me know if you like the new title and if needed, change your reader and your bookmarks to www.thewonderfullymade.blogspot.com. I'm so happy about this change!

In other news, we have had a great weekend in the Buchanan home!

First of all, I've been testing out the Nikon D3100 that I got from my parents and Mark for my birthday. I still have a LOT to learn as this is my first DSLR, but it is fun to play with!

Brittany, heather, and Stacy came in town late on Friday night. Heather was hungry and we weren't too exhausted so we headed up the road for the nearest Mexican place still serving food for some late night chips and salsa. By the time we got back to the house, it was 8am in London so we Skyped with Emily! There were lots of giggles!

Saturday morning I made cinnamon rolls, bacon, and eggs and we chatted over breakfast. Heather and I went our own way and headed to White Rock Lake for a walk with motley. The weather was so nice and it wasn't too crowded!

Brittany and Stacy headed to the mall and came back with some awesome deals!

We napped and lounged around in the afternoon before we met up with Jody, Jayde, and Kara for dinner. We went to Urban Crust, per usual! After dinner we headed down to Dallas for some live music. We had a great time!

On Sunday, the girls packed up and headed out of town while mark and I went down to our old stomping grounds. We had made reservations about two weeks ago for brunch at Hattie's to celebrate Valentines day. We aren't into crowds or a big fuss over the holiday so a relaxed, yummy brunch was perfect! We walked around bishop arts a little so I could play with my camera and then we headed back home.

I'm off work today for Presidents' Day so I'm enjoying the weather and time off before the week gets crazy!

Be sure to check out my blog tomorrow for a fun post featuring Warby Parker!

(Also, i'm linked up with Leeann today!)

Happy Monday!

Weekend with Emily

Like I mentioned Friday, Emily came into town to have some fun girl time with me before she jets off for London.

We started our weekend by meeting at Velvet Taco for some late night delicious tacos. It didn't disappoint, as usual! We continued the girl talk back at our house and called it a night.

We spent the rest of the weekend shopping, eating, and talking, per the norm. On Sunday we went down to the Bishop Arts District for a late brunch.

We stopped in at a few stores, including my favorite candle shop Society.

We had been wanting to try Oddfellows since I had lived in the area 18 months ago and we were finally able to give it a taste.

It was a beautiful winter day in Texas with highs in the 70's.

We each ordered off of the taco menu and I added a gingerbread pancake for something sweet. It was SO good!

We capped of our day with Emily's first trip to Emporium Pies and a little walk around White Rock Lake in east Dallas.

I'm so glad you got to come visit Emily, see you in London! ;)

Foodie blog : Shady's Restaurant

Mark and I stopped by a local place on Sunday for lunch after church. I had seen this place driving by a few times as it's on the street that our street intersects with, but i had no idea what kind of place it was. I couldn't remember the name but I told Mark that we should try it for lunch! I knew it had a patio and it was such a nice day that we wanted to sit outside, so off we went to eat at Shady's.

When we walked in we realized it was an order at the counter type of burger place, which worked for us!

Mark had the Shady burger with a fried egg and no sides and I ordered the chicken tenders. They were $6 on the menu with no sides but the cashier asked if I wanted the kids meal which came with fries, a drink, and a cookie for $5 so I went for it!

Our food was REALLY good and the kids meal turned out to be plenty of food for both of us! The service was fast and we didn't have to tip anyone since we ordered at the counter.

It has almost two levels of patio and the second level was closed in. It also has lawn-type games and a full bar so customers are inclined to stick around.

I managed to find their facebook page and also an article about the restaurant opening, which happened in April.

If you're in the area and want to have a cheap meal in a cool place, I suggest you try Shady's!
