fall fun

We spent our afternoon and evening in McKinney with Mark's family and the boys got some good quality time with their cousins at the quick visit to a fall fest.

In the chaos of getting everyone out of the car, I missed how this happened but Beau was trotting up the parking lot holding hands with Luke and Mason. Love!

(Davis was more pleased than he looks, promise!)

davis jeffrey | three months

GROWTH dmariebuchanan@gmail.com Image Map
  • WEIGHT: not quite sure, but I'd guess about 13 pounds.
  • CLOTHING: slowly moving into 3-6 months!
  • DIAPERS: size 2! We'll probably finish off what we have and then move up to size 3. We should totally do size 3 at night but I keep forgetting to pick any up!
LOVES
  • mama's face
  • making conversation
  • standing up
  • sitting up
  • his crib mobile
  • being carried in the ergo
  • watching beau
  • being held
  • eating
  • people watching

FIRSTS
  • used the jumper for the first time with a blanket behind him. He loves it!
  • first time in the bumbo but that doesn't last too long because he doesn't have the ab strength yet.
  • first overnight without dada, and mama did it twice in one week! It was rough.
  • first time to the Buchanan's lakehouse!
  • first trip to the Arboretum

EATING
  • We haven't improved much on the eating front...he eats pretty much every two hours when we are at home not doing much. If we are out and about he can go 3, sometimes 4 hours. What's the deal?! He also sometimes only takes 2 oz and then wants to burp and hang out for about 30 minutes before he eats any more. Then other times he takes all 4 oz and sucks it down. Any tips to get him to go at least 3 hours between every feeding?? Am I not giving him enough? I usually offer him a 4 oz bottle at every feeding. And we do try to distract him and try everything like pacifiers, etc. before we give in and feed him.

SLEEP
  • He moved into his crib!!! We moved Beau over at 10 weeks but I felt like Davis was still too small at that point so I waited until last week when he was 12 weeks and every night has gotten better! He woke up every 3 hours the first night but increased the time between feedings since then and the last 3 nights he slept from 8pm-4am! Then back to sleep until 8am. My sleep tracker hasn't looked that good in a long time! :)
  • He's still swaddled in a swaddleme sleeper which he hates being secured in but seems to sleep well in. We also have the Hatch Baby Rest from amazon that I use as a sound machine/night light for when I feed him. I put up Beau's old mobile and turn it on every time I set him down. He always has a pacifier but only takes it occasionally; he's usually asleep before I can put it in.
  • He's particular about going to bed at 8. He's shown signs in the past that he was tired at that time but I always wanted to give him a 'final' feed around 11 in the hopes that he would sleep all night. He wasn't having that! Even if he takes 4oz at 7pm, he starts showing tired/hungry signs at 8pm and will take another full 4oz and go to sleep at that point. I have to admit, it's been nice having both boys in bed by 8 and enjoying a little bit of free time! #hallelujah

HEALTH
  • Things definitely improved after Davis started taking formula but now it seems like the spitting up has increased, his fussiness increased slightly, and we've had more diaper troubles. I'm not 100% convinced that he's allergic to the Nutramigen (it is still made with milk, just broken up so sensitive systems can usually still handle it), but we are going to meet with a GI specialist to see what the deal is. Anyone have experience with this? Leave me a comment or send me an email and let me pick your brain about baby poop on Nutramigen. Seriously, all I talk about these days is poop. ugh.

SOCIAL/PLAYING
  • Davis' timeline seems a little more advanced compared to what I can remember of Beau's because he is already discovering his hands. I remember Beau hitting that point at the end of 3 months but Davis started slowly reaching for things about a week ago. If I am patient and hold my hand or a toy in front of him, he eventually works his hands to it, grabs it, and brings it to his mouth. I'm so excited for this milestone!
  • Davis also beat Beau to the punch in the rolling over department. He rolled over at 2 months! He did it for me right at 2 months but I thought it was a fluke. Then he did it in front of the doctor at his 2 month checkup, twice. Since then he's cleverly avoided tummy time by rolling over after 2 seconds. I attribute his skills to being a skinny little one, since my chunky first born couldn't roll for quite a while!

PARENTING
  • I feel like the dust is finally settling and we are starting to get a hang of this parenting two kids thing. I've been getting out pretty much every day to various places and while it takes a little bit longer to load and unload, it usually works out ok! I even took them both to Michael's the other day and had Beau help me pull a basket, untethered! He did make a run for it a couple times, but nothing too bad. ;)

And here's the monthly photo dump!
