WEIGHT: 17lbs 9.5oz (50%) and supposedly 29" long (97+%!)
CLOTHING: settling into 6-9, 9, and 6-12 month clothes. He definitely had a quick growth spurt recently!
DIAPERS: Well we did one box of size 3's and I'm ready to move into size 4's. He's also sleeping in size 6's (Beau's) because he eats/pees so much at night!
LOVES
- jumping/running in his jumper (finally figured out what it's for!)
- Beau talking to him/playing with him
- watching Motley and Kitty
- any attention from anyone
- biting on fingers
- rolling (on his right side) to his tummy
- his dada
- rubbing noses
FIRSTS
LOTS of firsts this month!
- first food, rice cereal on new year's eve
- rolled over from back to front on new year's eve
- barrel roll
- first veggie (carrots)
- first Christmas
- first time to Six Flags
- first time meeting lots of extended family
EATING
I feel like we've maybe turned a corner here. I finally bit the bullet and upgraded all of our bottle nipples to fast flow in hopes that it would solve some of our issues and I think it has. Davis is typically taking 5-6 ounces every 4ish hours. His sleep is still all over the place but over the last week or two we've gotten more consistent with 4 and 5 hour stretches, eating 6 ounces each time he wakes up. However, he's not really wanting to eat once he wakes up around 7:30 until around noon. Trying to figure that one out.
Also, he's having rice cereal, carrots, and butternut squash (so far) once a day, but it's the teeniest amount. He doesn't seem to be a huge fan of any of them. I'm going to take baby steps into the world of baby led weaning again soon to see if he prefers real food over purees. I'm hoping once he starts solids he will start sleeping better!
SLEEP
As I mentioned above, he has given us some longer stretches at night, so that has been nice for me. We really have to make sure he is taking lots of formula throughout the day because if he doesn't, it seems to mess up his sleep at night. He's also settling better into a nap schedule. He typically takes a short nap at 10am and then a long one at 1pm, usually 2 hours. Beau took more naps at this age but also went to bed much later. Davis is usually in bed by 6:30 because he's made it clear that's what he wants! We've also moved him out of the Merlin sleep suit and into a thick sleep sack. It's been really cold here so I've been stressing about that but so far, we've survived!
HEALTH
Things have quieted down with Davis' health and we are just enjoying a normal 6 month old. He is still on Neocate and after we met with the GI in December we decided not to introduce Nutramigen again since we are introducing all sorts of new things right now.
Beau, Davis, and I were all sick with colds in December and we were a snotty mess. Davis woke up Christmas morning with unexplained hives and set us off for a stressful Christmas day. They cleared up after some Benadryl but appeared again the next morning, only to go away with more medicine and have not come back since. We still are clueless to what happened!
SOCIAL/PLAYING
I'm starting to see glimpses of Beau and Davis playing together and it is ADORABLE. Beau has turned a corner in how he treats his brother and he has been SO great at sharing, finding baby toys for Davis to play with, and playing together. His jealousy seems to have dissipated for a while, at least, and he takes Davis' love for grabbing in stride.
Davis is a TALKER. He wakes up talking/squealing in the morning and keeps it up as long as he is happy and awake. He gets super loud! I'm wondering if this is going to continue or if it's just a phase. Either way, he is definitely finding his voice!
PARENTING
I'd say things have been good lately! We're sleeping (somewhat), we've mostly got Davis' food issues under control, Beau and Davis are getting along...no complaints here! I actually told Mark I was finally ready to start thinking about some updates we want to make on the house, which must mean we are past the newborn haze of life. I remember these next few months being one of my favorite phases with Beau so I'm excited for what's to come.
A few more random notes:
- his hair is coming in FAST. He has a cowlick at the back and some of his hair is 4" long! It's also quickly changing color. I thought he might be a brown haired baby like I was but nope, it's a brown/red/blonde depending on the light and looks JUST like Beau's did at this age, right before it turned dirty blonde.
- Davis kicks up a storm. He always kicks his socks off (left one first) and he has scratches on the back of his legs from his toenails! He likes to move (and doesn't love the car seat as much as his brother did)
Here's Davis' monthly updates so far:
And for comparison, here's Beau at 6 months:
Of course, here's the photo dump!
