Five on Friday, 2014 volume 7

It's another Five on Friday with April and crew!

Not much happened this week, but there are a few things I forgot to blog about over the past couple of weeks, so here's kind of a recap of the month of March for you!

-one-

Mark and I went to Arlington last night to celebrate my dad's birthday. We got to hear lots of words and funny things come out of this little girl!

This was her "please give me candy" slash sleepy slash wiping her eyes...

-two-

Jody invited me to go to a concert with her a few weeks ago that was put on by the Dallas Chamber Symphony. I had never been to the concert hall and I loved it! It was a nice intimate size and the concert was the perfect length. The ballerina cancelled (due to sickness) but the second half of the show was the score to a classic black and white movie. It was so interesting! I loved getting into the Dallas culture scene, even if it was just for one night!

Here are my fave pins from the week:

I just LOVE this picture. It is such good design! I would totally have this in my house. Although I might hang the antlers a liiitttllleee higher. Ouch!

I'm thinking of adding this scripture as art on canvas in my office/guest room. Love it!

I posted this this week and got a lot of feedback via Pinterest. This idea is genius! We finally have a backyard to get some sun, but no pool. I'm SERIOUSLY considering this, y'all. SERIOUSLY.

-four-

I met my friend Macie for dinner a few weeks ago. At her suggestion, we tried Hopdoddy in Preston Village. Oh. my. word. It was a delicious hamburger!

When I got there, the line was out the door. It was about a 20 minute wait to order food and then sit down, but it was pretty dang worth it.

They have a few different locations and they all seem to be doing REALLY well. If you like a good burger, go to Hopdoddy! You won't regret it. YUM!!!

-five-

Be SURE to come back Monday because I'm hosting my very first giveaway!!! I picked a good one too...

EEEEE!!!!!!!! :)

Happy Friday!

Food Diaries : Mellow Mushroom with Andrea and the crew

Whoops.

I promised to blog on Friday and I let you guys down! I'm sorry about that. The good news is that I'm back and have a lot lined up for the next couple of weeks, so please forget about my little mistake last week!

A couple of weeks ago, Mark and I went up to McKinney to see his sister Andrea and her kids. We had missed her birthday brunch the weekend before and wanted to make up for it.

We went to Mellow Mushroom on the square in McKinney. Mark and I had never been and were excited to try out the pizza and the open air atmosphere. I even grabbed my new Nikon on the way out so I snapped some 'real' pictures!

It was a really nice evening and we had a lot of people watching to do as we waited for our pizza. I think Mellow Mushroom does something special with their pizza because we were told that it's pretty normal for it to take a while for your order to come out. We didn't mind, though, because we got even more time to chat with Andrea and play with the kids.

The food was REALLY good, but the company was even better!

Mark and Mason

Miss Priss

Mark and Griffin.

Andrea and Luke were there too, promise!

We had a really good time and I would totally recommend Mellow Mushroom. Just make sure you have time to wait! It's really delicious, and the location on McKinney's square is perfect!

Happy Monday!

Five on Friday, 2014 vol. 5

-one-

I am trying to cook more so this week I made Turkey burgers from a recipe I found on Pinterest. They aren't just regular turkey burgers, though. They are turkey-spinach-feta burgers and the patties were only about 130 calories each! They were pretty good and husband approved!

-two-

Speaking of food, we have plans to meet Marks family for dinner tomorrow in McKinney. They have been raving about Mellow Mushroom so we are trying it out. It's an open air pizza place, so it has to be good, right? Have any of you tried it?

I've inundated you with my love for Pinterest so why not add it to the five on Friday lineup? Here are my top three favorite pins from this week:

This is one of the sweetest camera straps I have seen so far. I love it!

I had all the ingredients for these last weekend so I whipped some up when the girls visited me. Mark told me he ate 8 and Stacy said she had 5. They were gone by Sunday!

So simple. Love it!

My favorite times of year are Thanksgiving, 4th of July, and daylight savings. I am a summer-crazed Texan and I always have daylight savings in my calendar and look forward to it for about 3 months. It's coming up in a couple weeks and I can't wait!!! There is just something about having daylight until 8:30pm that makes me so happy!

-five-

It's the time of year where things are slow and I'm looking for the next big thing to work towards. All I can think about right now is traveling! I have limited vacation time this year because I just switched jobs, so I need to spend my time wisely. We have talked about going to Europe and New York, but what about Park City, Utah, Banff National Park, or Mexico? I'm dying to go back to Kauai, too. Where are you guys going this year?

I'm linked up with Darci at the good life blog today for five on Friday. Happy weekend! ;)

Weekend with Emily

Like I mentioned Friday, Emily came into town to have some fun girl time with me before she jets off for London.

We started our weekend by meeting at Velvet Taco for some late night delicious tacos. It didn't disappoint, as usual! We continued the girl talk back at our house and called it a night.

We spent the rest of the weekend shopping, eating, and talking, per the norm. On Sunday we went down to the Bishop Arts District for a late brunch.

We stopped in at a few stores, including my favorite candle shop Society.

We had been wanting to try Oddfellows since I had lived in the area 18 months ago and we were finally able to give it a taste.

It was a beautiful winter day in Texas with highs in the 70's.

We each ordered off of the taco menu and I added a gingerbread pancake for something sweet. It was SO good!

We capped of our day with Emily's first trip to Emporium Pies and a little walk around White Rock Lake in east Dallas.

I'm so glad you got to come visit Emily, see you in London! ;)

post weekend wrap-up

I guess it's about time I share my weekend with you!

Friday night I tagged along with Jody as we went to Babe's in Burleson and ended the night with a little bowling action. I missed the chance to take any photos at Babe's simply because I was chowing down on family style fried chicken (it was so good, even the vegetarian gave in...sorta). If you live in the area and love a good home style meal, I highly suggest trying it at least once!

After dinner we headed to the bowling alley where Jody and I single handedly schooled everyone else. They were convinced we were pros. She and I were convinced we were just lucky and everyone else just had a bad game!

On the way home we eagle-eyed this awesome store. The signage ALMOST made us want to go in. Discuont!? It's gotta be good.

On Saturday I treated myself to a little shopping and since I was already out of my way for the outlet mall I figured I should pick up some hay for Motley's doghouse. She stays outside while we are at work and it's starting to get cold in the morning so we piled it in her pink doghouse to keep her warm. I'll share a photo soon. She loves it!

After some down time, it was time to get our scarlet and black on and root for Tech! Kitty tried to help, but unfortunately didn't do too much good. :( It was a valiant effort by Tech but the Sooners managed to win in the end. 7-1 record isn't the end of the world, though!

I joined our local Rec center down the street on Sunday...

..and made it down for some cardio on Monday! I did some time on the elliptical, the treadmill, and the stationary bike. Over 7 miles all together.

Proud of myself for finishing out my workout with a 6 mile ride! It's a start! (Not my TV programming of choice, btw)

This week I'm jetting off to Las Vegas and celebrating Halloween homeowner-style. I can't believe it's almost November already!

Happy hump day!
